Professor Simon Rice appointed Tuckwell Fellow

Professor Simon Rice OAM has been appointed as one of the three inaugural Tuckwell Fellows, under the Tuckwell Scholarship Program (made possible by the $50 million gift to the ANU from Graham and Louise Tuckwell).  The key role of the Fellows will be to support and provide advice to the Tuckwell Scholars, the first 25 of whom will commence their studies in 2014.  This appointment is apt recognition of Simon's energy and commitment to improving and broadening the experience of students at the ANU.

Fulbright Scholarships

ANU College of Law Emeritus Professor Jim Davis has co-authored Law of Torts, 5th edition (LexisNexis) with Rosalie Balkin.

Law of Torts is part of the LexisNexis Black and Silver series and provides a comprehensive and authoritative analysis of the law of torts in Australia. Both common law and statutory torts under the Civil Liability and Defamation Acts are covered across all Australian jurisdictions.

Graduate students awarded

Two graduate law students are among the 2013 cohort of John Monash Scholars. The Scholarships, each valued at $50,000 per year for up to three years, are awarded to young Australians who have demonstrated leadership in their field and the community.

Constituting economic and social rights

Associate Professor Katharine Young's book, Constituting Economic and Social Rights, was published in the prestigious Oxford Constitutional Theory Series in October 2012. The book, which develops a theory of the legal realization of rights to food, health care, housing, education and social security, drawing from comparative and international experience, was launched at Harvard Law School in November 2012. It will also be the subject of an Author-Meets-Reader book panel at the Law and Society Association Annual Meeting in Boston in June 2013.
